Fine for illegally set snares

A Surrey man who fined by West Surrey magistrates in March for setting wire snares in an illegal manner.

Alex Seldon pleaded guilty to three instances of failing to set a snare in a legal manner, and one of failing to inspect an animal trap once a day. In one incident a cat lost a leg after getting snared. The leg was successfully amputated after gangrene set in.

Seldon was fined £800 for illegal use of traps and £600 for causing unnecessary suffering to the cat. He was also told to pay £500 legal fees and £392.68 preparation costs to the RSPCA, making a total of £1,692.68.
