A CAT which needed life-saving surgery after being trapped in an illegal snare is settling into his new home in Pleasley.

Chad readers helped pay the vet bills of more than £1,000 to carry out skin grafts on Herbie’s body earlier this year.

The two-year-old tabbie was found in Creswell and vets believe he could have been caught in the trap for up to three weeks this winter.

But after spotting a picture of Herbie at Croft Veterinary Centre in Bolsover and hearing about his story, Kay Taylor says she ‘had to have him’.

“He looked so lovely and he had been through so much I thought he deserved a good home,” Kay said. “He has settled in really well and is already the boss.”

Scarcliffe Cats Protection centre raised the cash for Herbie to undergo the treatment and by 18th April he had been given the all clear.

Diane Band, from the centre, said: “Thanks go to Chad readers and the expertise of vet James Farrell. We are delighted to have found Herbie a new home.”
