Sheep farmer condemns callous snarer

An angry sheep farmer has condemned a callous snarer who placed a snare on his land without permission and caused the death of a badger.

The snare was placed near moorland in Norton, Sheffield. The farmer the dead badger in the snare which obviously hadn’t been checked for days. The farmer reported the incident to police who are investigation.

The churned-up ground in a 6ft circle where the badger had been trapped was witness to the frantic struggle as it thrashed about trying vainly to free itself. The badger was nearly cut in two by the snare around its abdomen.

The sheep farmer is angry and mystified that a snare was on his land and he has no concerns with badgers and foxes. He knows local farmers and cannot understand why this has occurred out of the blue.

The snare was of legal design, having a swivel and so-called ‘slip’ loop.
