A ROE deer had to be destroyed after being found trapped in an illegal snare on a Moray estate, it was revealed yesterday.

A pet dog had also been trapped in another illegal snare, in the Buckie area, but escaped unharmed. Police confirmed they are investigating a series of incidents in which illegal snares had been set.

Grampian Police said the snares had nothing to do with any legal pest control and it was likely they were being set to illegally target deer.

A spokesman said: “The illegal use of the snares and the effects they have had are very concerning. Landowners and police will be monitoring the area.”
