A dog walker near Basingstoke, Hampshire, uncovered a badger snared by the leg on a game-shooting estate  She went home to get cutters and on returning heard two shots.  On investigation, she found the badger missing and just blood and disturbed ground.

NASC was contacted and visited: the site was found but no badger discovered on a search.  We returned a week later when a smell would develop and found a body in dense brambles just yards from the snare site.  The badger was taken by police and an X-ray showed it was shot in the head.

As of November 2019, this remains an on-going police investigation and gamekeepers are being questioned.
