Badgers Killed by Snares: Dunsley, Sandsend, North Yorkshire

This adult sow badger was found on the side of the road nr Dunsley village on the Sandsend Road . It was there early Sunday morning 18th May 2008, found by a lady going to see to her horses. This badger was killed by a commercially made AB Country Products wire snare.

The snare had cut deeply in a full circle into the neck of the badger. The snare had been cut through by wire cutters at the long end to remove the animal from its original site.The body still had external parasites in the pelt suggesting she had been killed within the last 24 hours. This adult sow was previously in good bodily condition and looked to have been nursing cubs this year.

On 16th May 2008 an adult badger was seen in the same exact position early on Friday morning. This badger was seen to have a “slit throat” by the same lady going to her horses. On her return the badger had been removed.
