Warning to pet owners after attack on cat

A MUCH-LOVED family pet is recovering after a horror incident when it came home with a noose tied around its neck.

Police fear Motoo the black and white cat could be the victim of illegal animal snares being laid in urban areas – or a callous targeted attack.

And his owner Charlene Bonar, from Bagillt, Flintshire, is now urging other pet lovers to be on their guard.

Charlene says she’s scared to let her three cats out of the house after four-year-old Motoo walked in with wire wrapped around his throat.

“He came in with what looked like a piece of wire with some tape and a bit of rope attached to it,” she said.

“I thought he had been stabbed in the neck with something at first.

“I managed to take the wire off, but it was pulled quite tight and he was reluctant to let me go near his neck.”

The mum-of-two immediately reported the incident to police, who launched an investigation amid fears traps are being laid for animals in the area near her home in Bron Haul.

Charlene, 28, added: “This is the second time something like this has happened to me.

“In October, my other cat Gin came home with purple spray paint all over his neck. I have no idea why anyone would want to do this.

“I don’t know whether Motoo has walked into a trap that had been laid by someone who doesn’t like animals or whether it’s kids who have done it.

“Either way, I really don’t want to let any of the cats out now – I’m scared something will happen to them.

“I just want to warn people to be on their guard. If it can happen to my cats twice, it’s only a matter of time before someone else’s pet gets hurt.”

Earlier this year, the RSPCA issued a warning to pet owners after several cats in the Flint and Bagillt area were poisoned with anti-freeze.

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “This is a particularly nasty incident.

“We would urge witnesses or anyone who can help with enquiries to contact us as soon as possible.”
