A man from Annan who neglected his dogs and was caught in possession of illegal snares has been banned from keeping dogs and fined £1,000.

Liam Blair, 24, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering by failing to provide veterinary treatment to his bull lurcher and terriers.

At Dumfries Sheriff Court he was given a two-year ban and ordered to pay £800 in compensation to the Scottish SPCA.

The animal welfare charity welcomed the sentence.

Ch Supt Mike Flynn said: “These dogs were suffering from facial injuries and despite the obvious pain they were in Blair did not seek veterinary treatment.

“Thankfully both have made a full recovery and will be now be rehomed somewhere they will receive the care and attention they deserve, along with a bull lurcher which was also signed over into our care.

“The fine and compensation orders are substantial and we are pleased a ban has been imposed.”
