Dog gets caught in rabbit snare left in park

rabbit snare left in park

ILLEGAL animal traps have been found in a park popular with dog walkers.

According to police, the home-made rabbit traps placed in Row Town, near Addlestone, posed a danger to children as well as animals.

They have already seen a cocker spaniel becoming caught in one of the traps on Hare Hill common land.

The dog was freed by its owner without being injured.

After reports from members of the public around January 20, police searched the area and found eight traps with more discovered since then.

They were made from materials including copper wire and rubber flex cord, and officers believe they are being placed on the land overnight.

PC Anita Clark said: “The simple message we would like to send out is that these traps and snares are illegal and will be removed.

“The traps pose an obvious danger to small children and animals using the park so it is important that anyone who sees any further traps makes us aware so they can be seized.

“Fortunately at this stage there have not been any injuries to children or pets as a result of the traps, but making and placing them on common land is dangerous and irresponsible.

“We are working closely with the RSPCA to identify any additional traps on the land and would urge anyone with any information about who is placing them to contact us.”

People are asked to report any further discoveries to Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
