The National Anti Snaring Campaign wants the banning of all types of snare used for 'pest control', whether it be a rabbit snare for snaring rabbit (or trapping rabbit) or fox snare.

The Horror of Snares

snares in South Yorkshire kill badgers

A free running snare was set near a badger sett entrance at Hood Green Barnsley, South Yorks. It caught this female badger and cut her abdomen open, killing her. The cub was also found dead. The free-running snare that trapped and killed her is also shown. 17th May 2002.

THE SNARE

by James Stephens, 1915.

I hear a sudden cry of pain!
There is a rabbit in a snare;
Now I hear the cry again,
But I cannot tell from where.

But I cannot tell from where
He is calling out for aid;
Crying on the frightened air,
Making everything afraid.

Making everything afraid,
Wrinkling up his little face,
As he cries again for aid;
And I cannot find the place!

And I cannot find the place
Where his paw is in the snare:
Little one! Oh, little one!
I am searching everywhere.

In Scotland, a female badger was almost cut in two by a snare - but was still alive when found by a doctor. When the doctor touched the badger, its heart fell out, still beating, before it died.
The lad responsible for this callous and cowardly act is pictured holding rabbit and goes by the name 'Geordie' on UK hunting forums.

If we can find out his real name we will take all the evidence we have to the police. Do you know who he is?
